Stained Glass Cookies

These cookies are my childhood. It’s always fun to make them with kids!

Stained Glass Christmas Cookies

2 ½ cups flour
½ tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. baking soda
¼ tsp. salt

Combine and set aside.

¾ cup butter, softened
½ cup packed brown sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
1/3 cup light corn syrup

Beat butter, sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy. With mixer running at medium speed, gradually drizzle in the syrup.
Stir in flour mixture ½ cup at a time, blending well. Form dough into ball and set in refrigerator for 15 minutes.
Roll out on floured surface. Use large cutters and smaller ones in the middle. Fill with single color of chunks of hard candy (Life Savers work well). Brush dough surfaces with 1 egg white, beaten with 2 tsp. water.
Put cookies on foil covered cookie sheets. Bake at 350° for 7-10 minutes. Cool for 20 minutes before peeling off of foil.
Store in airtight container at room temperature for 2 weeks or freeze longer with wax paper between layers.
