Rich Chocolate Brownies
2 1/2 (1 oz) squares unsweetened chocolate
1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 cup chopped pecans
Melt chocolate and shortening; allow to cool. Beat sugar and eggs until well blended; add chocolate mixture.
Combine baking powder and flour; add to chocolate mixture, blending well. Stir in vanilla and nuts. Spread evenly in a greased 13x9x2 inch pan; bake at 325° for 40-50 minutes. Cut into squares.
Makes about 5 dozen.
